Ginger - Zingiber Officianale
This rhizome has so many culinary uses — in curries, juices, pickled, fresh, tea — providing a delightful zing in just about every form.
I planted a piece of sprouting ginger about a decade ago and since I wasn’t here during the summers much for about 8 years, I thought my ginger had died. Then one summer, I was here and I noticed the distinctive ginger flower shooting up. So each year now I notice the green leaves (and occasional flowers) return under my kaffir lime tree and I think it’s grown from a single piece of ginger to about 2 feet long. I’m looking forward to harvesting soon. Medicinally, I love ginger tea with honey and lemon whenever I feel a chill coming on.
