Wild Pineapple - Bromelia pinguin
In the bromeliad family, this bromeliad is a cousin, not a brother or sister to the true pineapple.
Its fruit comes in a very different offering than what we think of as a pineapple. Yet it’s sweet and sour fruit is edible and has a tanginess reminiscent of pineapple that delights during these summer months while it is ripe.
The bright red bud of flowers looks surely almost like spray paint. And the deeply lobed spines are perhaps even more effective than agave as a border plant/deterrent.
