Pomegranate - Punica granatum

The gorgeous tree offers it’s pearly red gems all year long.

I recommend pomegranate as a wonderful edible hedge that can survive with little water (it is drought-tolerant) and will offer more fruits when it is getting water. The dense bushy growth of the pomegranate coupled with it’s spiny branches offers a great edible hedge. High concentrations of polyphenols, anthocyanins and ellagitannins means this fruit offers quite a bit of antioxidant color to our diet (and we can even use these brilliant colors to stain fabric.
