Sweet Sop - Annona squamosa

The sweet and custardy version of the well known Baja favorite guanabana or soursop.

The sweetsop (very closely related to cherimoya as well) doesn’t thrive here in southern Baja. However, if you take good care, it will yield you a luscious custardy fruit without the characteristic sour tang of the guanabana. Flesh is a little smoother (less fibrous) than guanabana as well. I love the purple/red coloring of the ripe fruit. The flesh is much sweeter and softer (less fibrous) than the soursop. The leaves are used for dyssentary and UTIs in some tropical areas.
