Fertilizing our fruit trees and guarding our precious desert water are two of the essential tasks we ask of our soil here in Todos Santos.
Let’s celebrate the Equinox this week and dig into the soil exploring multiple soil improvement techniques: vermicomposting, mulching, hugelkulture, animal manure, kitchen compost, mulch basins. Humus and other spongy topsoil can hold an order of magnitude more water than the sand so common around Todos Santos. It is essential to allow organic material into our soil.
We also will do a soil shake test to see our sand/clay/silt ratio and check out our soil pH meter. We can sit on the cobb benches I have made from the soil from our land with a bit of red clay from the mountains above us added in.
The tour of the property will take place from 8:30- 9:30 and then another hour or so of deeper exploration into the many different soil creation technique we are implementing here, on our Permaculture Education Center, in Pescadero.
Donation of 200-500 pesos is appreciated. Reservations required at: itsallgoodliam@gmail.com
