Come learn about infusing herbs into various menstruums, on Sunday Auguts 1: vinegar, alcohol (tincture), honey with herbs freshly harvested from our garden while discussing the pros and cons of each menstruum. We’ll have some time in the garden as well to cultivate relationships with these green allies.
To celebrate the Gaelic festival, Lughnasadh, on Sunday, August 1, marking the beginning of harvest season and Midsummer (or end of summer depending on who you ask), we are offering an introductory class on herbalism. We will explore infusing fresh and dried plants into multiple menstruums: alcohol (for tincture), vinegar (for culinary and medicine), honey (for fun) and water (for teas and infusions). We have loads of fresh herbs available so that each participant can make their own herbal infusion in whatever menstruum they choose. Likely we will also harvest our elderberry tree (and make some elderberry jam or tincture). I may dig up one of our older ashwagandha plants to start a tincture, as well. Holy basil, rosemary, hoja santa all make wonderful vinegars and honeys.
The course will begin with a tour of our beautiful Permaculture Education Center with our polycultural perennial food and medicine forest. Our lychee and tamarind are fairly abundant these days. And we can visit our rabbits, chickens and worms and check out a few other soil creation techniques — all on the first hour of the tour.
This will be followed by 1-2 hours of herbal medicine making.
Smudging with our homemade rustic moxa stick to cleanse ourselves and offer healing to any area where we may have pain.
Tour runs from 8:30 - 9:30 and then we can begin herbal medicine making and be done before noon.
Suggested Donation is 200-500 pesos.
