Natural Dye Play Day

Celebrate Easter this Sunday April 17th by dying eggs and fabric and bringing vibrant spring colors into your life. Let’s explore the garden and use some of the flowers, roots, barks and seeds to create color to celebrate the resurrection of spring.

We will start the day at 9:00 with a tour through our perennial polycultural food and medicine forest which has many bright beautiful colors in bloom right now. We will then proceed to the kitchen and patio to explore what we can create.

Plants that we have with which we will explore dying: achiote tree, marigold, jamaica, madder, cashew bark, avocado pits, coffee, turmeric. I offer this workshop in the spirit of experimentation and play.

I am a beginner at dying yet very passionate about growing many resource plants on my property for food, fiber, medicine and more. I have a basic understanding of mordants and the distinction between staining and dying and I see this as an opportunity for more active experimentation to bring color and play into my life to celebrate spring.
